I Have a 70 Driver. It has a black gut but I want red.
It is due for seats and carpets anyway. I have most of the interior apart for other repairs. Can I dye Black to Red? will it hold? Will it looked dyed? Who makes the best dye?
Ray
"SEM" dyes are pretty good but may not hold up to well on the seats because you are constantly move around on them. I have used the dye from Corvette America as well, I buy it by the quart, they are also good on doors and dashes if you spray them with a touch-up spray gun. Preperation/cleaning/ is the most important step in dyeing. The seats are the toughest to dye because of all the seams and so on. A set or red covers is easier then dyeing.. Good Luck
Sounds like you would be putting new red seat covers and carpet so that leaves the dash, door panels, console and other trim parts. If you do proper prep and have a detail sprayer and the time to do it right I think you could get the results you'd expect for a driver. I wouldn't dye seat covers for reasons already mentioned.
Have your seats recovered. See if they will send you a small piece when you get your seats back. Take that piece to your local autoparts paint store and have them match the color as a dye. Get the proper plastic prep and vinal prep and dye all the parts you need, so they will match the seat color. The store will make it up in quarts or spray bombs if you want. Fo;;ow the prep instructions. Did my car that way about eight years ago and the car still looks fantastic.
