    69 Wheel Date Code

I have been comparing page 34 of the Judging Guide to my actual wheels. On the right side of the valve stem I see 23 AZ, however on the left it seems quite blank. Then in the hub area on the raised portion between the stud holes there is a K 1 9 stamped, the bottom half of the 9 is very faint.

The example in the manual depicts K 1 9 7 (Hole for valve stem) 16 AZ. I do not believe any of my wheels have four characters on the left side of the valve stem.

Can someone post a good picture of what I am looking for, it would be very beneficial.

Probably would be easier to purchase a correct wheel for the spare and forego the frustration. Are original wheels hard to come by?

I should have mentioned that you should remove the trim rings and inspect ALL your wheels to find out if there is ONE that has any visible characters at the left of the valve stem hole...THAT will be the one you want to mount your spare on. The four road wheels are not judged for date because the date stamps cannot be seen with the trim rings in place.

This assumes, of course, that the date stamps you find are within the preceding six month period allowed by NCRS. If you find date stamps, but they are menagerie of different years (not unusual), then use the current spare for judging in the near future. For a long term answer, you'll probably want to beat the bushes for a correct dated spare wheel.

          Very Helpful.

I think my wheels are powder coated or has several layers of paint as the dates have been filled in. Hate to ruin the look. Will probably look for a well dated spare. Any vendors out there that specialize in wheels?

          Again, thanks for the help

You will have no problem finding the wheel you need once you start looking. Some dates in 69 are definitely harder to find than others. There are numerous folks in the hobby that can help you including Lou Groebner, John Greenhoe, Sal Carbone and many more. What is the build date on your trim tag?

            Good luck in your search.

                Re: 69 Wheel Date Code

Keep in mind that although NCRS allows six months prior, that is typically the exception. In most cases, components are much closer to the build date of the body and/or engine. Usually within a couple of weeks and even several days.

                        Sal,

That's not bad, but, what if they mention Dick Whittington's name? About 40% or so?
