    Headlight Motor Switch Mounting

I have a 67 BB air car and according to the TIM the headlight motor switch should be mounted on the inside slot on the bottom of the instrument cluster rather than mounted on the far left slot as on non-air cars. My headlight motor switch is mounted by placing the switch up against the slot using the two screw holes in the instrument cluster on either side of the slot to screw the switch directly to the out side of the instrument cluster. The car was recently judged and a judge told me that the switch is mounted incorrectly. He said it should be mounted by placing the switch so that the ears on the switch are nounted on the inside of the instrument cluster housing rather than on the outside of the instrument cluster. Since the ears on the switch have slots rather than screw holes, I do not see how the screws can anchor themselves if mounted on the inside of the cluster. I have looked at the drawing in the Assembly Manual but the proper mounting is not made clear to me. Any help to clarify the proper mounting of this switch is greatly appreciated.

    Re: Headlight Motor Switch Mounting

There are flat nut plates that the screws go thru that are placed on the top of the switch mounting holes to allow the switch to be placed inside the housing. shown on UPC 12, sheet B4 of the AIM, at least in the '65 book I'm looking at.

Paul, I got gigged for the same thing. Turns out the switch is in the proper cutout location on the cluster but needs to be on TOP of the cluster lip, not the bottom. If you look closely at the AIM it shows that. You need to follow the lines for the screws on the drawing. (Switch was probably installed when cluster was assembled on the bench before installation in the car)

Its a bit of a bear to install with the cluster in the car but can be done. You just need to get the switch above the lip and the nuts laying on top of that. Took some tries but I got it done. Need small fingers too.....

I got gigged twice because the judge told me it was "to far back" the first time. After the second time I studied the AIM carefully and saw my mistake. It would have helped if the judge would have told me "it goes above the lip, not under it"

          Paul,

So if I understand correctly for C60 air cars the raise lower switch is in the slot between the battery gauge and wiper switch.

            Randy,

That is correct. The other slot that is to the far left (under the headlight pull switch) is reserved for the placement of the raise-lower switch for non-air cars.
