    1965 Brake Calipers

    Hi All,

I'm doing the brakes on my 1965 and would like to get them as "correct" as possible.

The judging Guide provides part numbers for the halves of the rear calipers; 5465905 and 5465902. Does anybody know what the correct part numbers would be for the fronts??? The JG does not appear to list this information (unless I missed it). Also, are all these castings dated?

    Thanks!

Yes, the castings are dated, although difficult to judge. The front brake casting numbers are 5465952, outer, and the inners are 5465954, at least per the 4th edition JG. If you have the originals on the car, some of the rebuilders will rebuild your calipers and return the originals to you for a small extra charge.

      Bill,

Thanks! I thought I read the JG cover to cover but must have missed it!

Joel if you get these rebuilt get them done with o rings and stay away from the original wiper seals its just a matter of time before they leak again even with stainless bores .

Pic of late '65 front caliper 5465954 w/date

My late July car had these (probably originals) on it when I purchased in 1988. Note the broken-off bleeder. Had to arrive with another set of calipers to drive it home.

Julian(?) date is 130 (roughly May 10th). The other dates on fronts (inboard and outboard halves) vary from 130 to 165 (roughly June 15th).

The rears are also originals (902's, 905's) and dates vary from 96 (roughly April 6th) to 119 (about April 30th).

I haven't pulled any of the original-type bakelite-insulator pistons to see if there are stainless sleeves, but I would doubt it, knowing the previous owners.
