    Look at this find

    Terry,

At least 25 years in the bottom of my toolbox. Repro on the left, original on the right. 67 ignition shield top bolt.

I love those original bolts. I have a few in my bins of bolts. I love it when I find them. Crazy hobbie. Terry

        Re: Look at this find

OK, Jerry, you got my interest up enought to go look at some items. First, my ignition shield top bolt/screw resembles the one on the left with an E manufacturer's logo. I believe both may be correct, just from different suppliers to the assembly line.

And, secondly, my '67 grille brackets are rivited with solid aluminum (?) rivets, not pop-rivets.

        Keep 'em coming,

          Re: Look at this find

          Kent,

On the shield bolt, the book says E or L, I have EL.

You should see my top alternator adjusting screw, it has an "NAT" on it, not in accordance with the JG. SBC on the lower bolt, also not by the book. When I started restoring 7 years ago (after the car sat in the garage for 20), I have saved every bolt and part taken off or replaced. I would rather refinish an original part, and put it back on than buy a repro. That's my hobby. I acually have my original fuel pump, refinished and recrimped with a replacement bottom, but am afraid to put it back.

On the grille bracket rivets, it is no big deal, I know the pop rivets are original to my car. Maybe someone closer or after my June 29 car (22049) has a similar pop rivet installation.

          Regards,

            Re: Look at this find

            Jerry,

I distinctly remember removing and reinstalling screws/bolts with the EL and concentric circles on my '67 during restoration but, simply, cannot remember where they were. It seems that they were in a protected location and in such good shape that they didn't require replating. I checked my hardware log and notes without finding them. With some time and investigation, I'll eventually find them and let you know where EL screws/bolts are on my February car.

            Regards,

              Kent,

Take a look at your expansion tank mounting strap bolts, same diameter but longer. Also someone told me that the oil pan bolts are similar but I haven't checked. They would have been put on at the engine factory and would have been painted.

These little details are a kick in the pants to me.

              Having fun,

Checked the expansion tank strap srews - - - they are EL with concentric circles headmark, both of them.
