63 trivia

The other day Tom Parsons mentioned about rear axle ID metal tags. He showed us his corrected copy of them.
My 63 is missing that tag. I have seen them on steel Chevy's but I guess I missed them on Corvettes. I see that Long Island lists them in Section #2, 07 D,E. etc. as being available for only 63's. I understand that they are blank.
I don't recall seeing these being required in our judging manual. No one mentions it at the shows. Course maybe they do. Anyhow just where does this blank tag go? I understand that it is held on with one of the bolts. WHich bolt? Didn't check the OEM manual. Also is this tag only used on 63's?? No other midyears??? Richie only lists it for 63 that is why I asked. Thanks, John

John, if you have the Corvette Chassis Restoration Guide by Joseph A. Tripoli, Jr. Take a look at page 54 at the bottom.

Sorry I didn't do my homework. The 63 JM DOES list this tag. On page 121 of the 4th edition it says. " There is also a round metal tag with or without notches or cut edges bolted to the read axle housing which denotes the gear ratio." So this tag is in addition to the positract tag also. Learned something new. Thanks Tom Parsons. John

The guide is in black and white and it is tough to scan. He is what I could get.
