I saw an original GM pic of a new '59 posted on the tech board the other day and it clearly had plastic over the seats. It looks like the cars came to the dealer with plastic, but was this removed during dealer prep or did the customer do it?
Probably depended on the dealer - some did, some didn't, although most customers would probably prefer to have the dealer do it so they didn't have to deal with all that trash and slide around on the seats in their brand new car. Maybe someone has a PDI sheet from that era.
