    C2 Firewall J-clip

One of the j-clips that is riveted into the firewall that holds the speedo cable on my 66 has come loose. It's right behind the right side vertical ignition shield bracket and hard to get to w/o a lot of disassembly. I can reach it but barely from both the bottom and top. Short of installing a self tapping screw is there any other way to reinstall it?

    Regards,
    Dave K.

    Dave,

If the clip is off and the rivet is still in the firewall, you can clean off the back of the clip and around the rivet and glue it back in place with JB Weld or similar. It will look like the rivet is holding the clip on again.

Can you push it into place and glue it on the interior side?

          Brian,

Without looking up and under the dash, I'm going to guess that the rivet would come through behind the heater box ducting. Besides, I have all new under dash firewall insulation installed.

Dave, Go to our Car Quest store in Greensburg and get some Loctite Weld which is the usual two part epoxy. Sets up in a few minutes. Grey color.
Or go to Bortz's Hardware on PA Ave. and buy: Do It Best fast setting 5 minute epoxy. It's clear and easy to use. Mix it on the bottom of a pop can and stir it 9 times(that's what the directions say) and apply it with a wooden skewer. Neat stuff to use and cheep. If they are out call me and I will bring you some on Sunday at the flea market.
Also I have your two parts ready for you. Forget the Loctite and go with the clear. Guaranteed first class cheater job. John D.

              John,

I normally use JB weld quik set (4 min.set). Epoxy is dark gray. Now if I can get to the j-clip w/o too much disassembly.
