    1958 Warner 4-Speed

There were 9,168 1958 Corvettes produced.I was wondering how many of these (9,168) had the new Warner 4-Speed installed in them at the factory? Were there many 1958 Corvettes installed at the factory with the old 3-speed?
    Thanks

    Re: 1958 Warner 4-Speed

4 speed was RPO 685, ordered in 3674 cars. that leaves a LOT of 3 speeds, including a '58 FI ar I once owner.

      Marc:
According to the Corvette Specifications Guide, there were 3,347 close-ratio synchromesh 3-speed trans as part of the base package, and 3,764 close-ratio 4-speed trans as part of RPO 685. There were also 75 cars with 3-speed 4.56:1 posi rears and 295 with the 4-speed option. Hope this is what you were looking for.

phil--that's the unfortunate thing-we have no idea which cars had which unless you had first hand knowledge of the car when new or had all the documentation. I saw an ad in the Driveline about someone offering a $10,000 reward for documentation for his car. Sad thing is, GM somewhere probably has a lot of this info, along with vin-related colors, and options in some building, tucked away for no one to see or find. Very little record keeping, c1's that had no trim tag-type of info and 50+ years of repainting, new engines, trans etc-so much so by the time the 3rd or 4th owner comes along, he has no idea what the car originally had.

            Phil

If the info was " tucked away some where " I think it would have been found by now. More than one person has looked. Seems to me I remember a story about records being pitched when the Corvette plant moved. Hopefully some one else will chime in and tell the story right.

              Re: SEEMS FUNNNNNNNY Thanks Terry

Ya I know the story and your right it would have been found if it was still around. My point was the info we have as to how many of, what colors etc etc all this and no cigar. Phil 8063
