I was told if I ordered coker bias redlines, that they no longer have the "dot" markings on them. If this is true, then would I recieve all points and no deductions on the origionality? If it is not true could someone tell me where to order the best bias redline for the car and judging?

Re: 67 bias redlines, Coker and non DOT?
What brand? only Goodyaer and Firestone ever produced the Redlines originally, and each has specific characteristics with respect to tread and section width as well as cord material that need to be considered as part of originality. Without seeing the tire to examine for other features, the presence or absence of a "DOT" designation may be only a small part of the originality consideration.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 67 bias redlines, Coker and non DOT?
Bill
Coker now retails a Firestone Super Sport redline tire, it is available without the DOT markings. Keith Biggers would probably be the best one to ask re deductions. I can say this new version is much closer to the original than the previous Firestone offering, which was not even a super sport. It probably gives you a good alternative to the Goodyear, and without the DOT as you mentioned.
I do know of one regional where these tires recieved no deduction, but I think that is probably not going to happen every time, forever.- Top

Re: 67 bias redlines, Coker and non DOT?
Hi Bill, "The Last Stingray" had the Firestone Super Sports red line tires on it (made by Coker) and Fred at Proteam told me the tires lost no points at the Florida Regional in January of '06 on its way to receiving the Triple Crown. I checked the car out last September at the McDormin show and they really looked good to me. I'm going to buy a set in the near future.
Best Regards,

Coker and non DOT? Not Anymore
As I understand it, Cokers new Red line super sports firestones they made last year had no DOT when they first ran them (dont know how many they made without)But they retooled and the DOT is on them. Phil 8063 PS most people just take off the DOT- Top

Re: 67 bias redlines, Coker and non DOT?
I thought that the DOT marking is required by Federal law, so if they left it off it may have been a mistake.
It is my understanding that Federal law also requires a standard-format date code that differs from the date codes used in 1967. If so, it will only be a matter of time before the NCRS judges learn to look at something other than the DOT marking to determine originality.
The DOT marking is the easiest method for detecting a reproduction tire, but in the absence of a DOT marking (left off by the manufacturer or carefully removed by the owner), I think the modern date code would give it away as a reproduction.- Top

Re: Thanks, Everyone, I'll order the firestones.
Hello Bill, I wouls hesitate on the purchase until you check with Keith. The new firestone reproduction varies from the original tire more than the Goodyear. There are items which will cause the Firestones to recieve a 20% deduction while the Goodyear repro will only recieve a 10% deduction.
Good Luck and spend the time to talk with Keith before such a major purchase.
