Torque Wrench Calibration

I have a 30+ year old Craftsman torque wrench - the type that you set the desired torque and it "clicks" when you reach that tension.

Does anyone know if it is possible or worthwhile to have it calibrated? If so, do you have any suggestions.

My Craftsman torque wrench is about 33 years old. Last time I checked at Sears they told me to just bring it to the store and they would send it off to be calibrated. Mine needs repair, have used it so much that the gears need replaced. Bought another Craftsman, but I like my old one better. I have a good strong round container to ship it in, just need to do it.

You don't need a container.
Just drop it off at your local Sears store, and weeks later it arrives back at your door. Mine needed a gear too, and all of the repair was included in the price.

It was less expensive than a new one, but not a lot.

I checked the calibration using a poor boy method after a buddy screwed my wrench up. My wrench has a point where it says Stop and do no go below 10 ft lbs. They did and something came loose in the wrench. We put it back together but feared it would be our of calibration. So then I Placed the wrench on a bolt hanging off an engine on my engine stand. I set to the desired torque and tied some weights to a rope and hung them off the handle. I measured the distance of the lever between the Socket and the rope and did the simple math to get ft-lbs. Then I added weight until the wrench clicked. My weights were 2 1/2# increments and it was within that accuracy. It did not need calibration, so I called it good.
