    I have an 81 (St. Louis). When i turn the headlight switch on and turn up the dimmer reostat, the gage cluster goes off. i have checked, cleaned & replaced the ground connections that i could find-no luck.i also ran a ground from the gage harness to a good ground with no help. please advise!

      I'd say that you need to replace the headlight switch.

          Agree...

          Sounds like a burned/open winding in the HL switch rheostat assy...
