    C2 vaolance supports 4 holes?

I am trying to determine the correct positioning and hard ware for my 1966 427's front valance support. there are 2 holes on each side, which do i use? also the way i figured it a bolt must go through the rod that goes to the headlights then through the core support then a nut but the valance support does not sit flush on the core support so is a spacer used? i cannot seem to find the details in the AIM.

    Bill,

There is a bolt and lock washer that goes through the holes in the bottom of the radiator support(from the inside). It goes through an "L" shaped bracket on the outside of the support and into the nut on the rod from the headlights. The "L" shaped bracket is held in with a bolt through the forward hole in the valance. (The gap you speak of may be there if you don't have the brackets installed)

i see that in the AIM my rods do not have nuts on them. were they square nuts welded on? also do all cars have 2 sets of holes in the valance? i will look again but it seemed like the L bracket and holes in the valance did not line up when i mocked it up the way you described but i will look again.

66-67 have two holes per side. The bolts in the forward holes.

              Bill,

I believe all original lower valances have the four holes. The rods have square weld nuts as you suggested.

I've seen cars(small blocks)with the L brackets installed with the leg towards the rear, the opposite direction shown in the manual.

right, in the AIM one pic shows legs to rear another legs to front. i did not know if one set of holes are for BB's and the other for SB's. my car is a real L72 but had a small block put in in 1971. i think pro team swapped out the core around 88 when the made it a SB car. i have photos and documentation of it being a BB car. the front holes were being used for the SB core support when i took it apart but the BB core support is different.

The L brackets on my car face towards the rear.

You're right, it is very tight to line everything up. If your car has been repaired in the front at all, it's even more difficult. Make sure you loosen the headlight support rods at the headlight when you line things up.

Doesn't matter whether it's a small-block or a big-block; they're both the same in that area. The screw goes in the front pair of holes, and should be painted body color - it was installed in the Body Shop, before Paint.
