      Yees, but

anybody who didn't want to end up in the passenger seat in a hard left turn installed them! My Dad put a pair of Piper Cub seat belts in mine back when Eisenhower was president.

Re: Roy, you do know "dave"

I did once in my 55 Nomad ( lost brakes), worked good and no damage ,faster then pulling the hand brake when your Sh**ting bullets trying to stop. Hope it never happens to you but remember it will work.

          I heard Corvette #3

was accidentally downshifted into reverse many years ago. Seemed to survive OK, but I'll bet the guy who did it 'bout had a heart attack!

I was 16, driving my dad's almost new 57 Chevy HT 220 HP 283 powerglide and was attempting to downshift and managed to hit R. Locked up the rear wheels and scared the stuffing out of me. Quickly shifted back to drive and drove carefully back to where it was supposed to be. A couple of weeks later they took it to the Chevy garage where they replaced the transmission for unspecified internal problems.

Luckily I was never asked about the problem.

So, yes it will lock up the rear wheels, which may cause control problems, and yes, it may cause mechanical problems.
