C1 Windsplit Molding Studs - Hex or Speed Nuts?

Hi all,

I have what I first thought were the original windsplit moldings. They have studs with speed nuts. I started threading them for hex nuts because the judging guide says that they were threaded and with hex nuts. Then someone told me that they had originals that used speed nuts.

So, before I do a lot for work for nothing, is it speed or hex nuts?

Bob,

The originals are threaded. The service replacements use speed nuts. If you are VERY careful, you can run a die down over those smooth studs and make them look just like originals. Take your time and lube up the die well and back it up every turn or so, and you will be able to thread all the way up. If you force the die, you can shear the studs off of the backing plate.
