    Tank Sticker Viewing

I would like to check and see if my car has a tank sticker attached to it. I read in a previous post that you can remove the rubber boot around the fill nozzle and look the the left side of the tank and potential see a remnant of the sticker. So, I was looking at the gas door this weekend, and thought I would ask before trying to remove the rubber boot around the neck of the tank. Can someone give me some pointers on doing this. Do I need to take the chrome trim and door off? How exactly is the rubber boot held in place? Thanks in advance.

Kirk, on my 46,000 mile 1967 convertible, we carefully pried the rubber boot over, without removing anything else, and could see that the tank sticker was in place. I couldn't get enough view to even see the condition of the sticker, or, if it was legible, but could clearly see that it was still there. Maybe it was shear luck that the sticker was applied close enough to the filler, but hopefully you will have the same luck. Good luck to you, Ridge.

Hi Kirk...you could try use a Borescope, a fiber-optic inspection scope, to go thru the boot as suggested by Ridge and verify if the sticker is there. Might even have a chance to read it. Here's a link to Garrett Wade, a finish carpentry tool supplier that carries them. There are other suppliers on the internet. I have a 67 L79 Coupe...I haven't tried this on mine yet, but will in the near future for that and possibly to read some of the other codes buried in the car. Good Luck, Pete.

        Kirk,

Agree with what Ridge suggested. Here is a photo of my '69 with the boot removed. You can carefully bend the boot away from the left side, fold it to the right and, with a good light, possible see the build sheet. Don't expect to read it through many years of accumulated dust.
