    Tires for the 65 BB

Just wondering what the groups consensus would be for tires to put on a 65 Convertible? Looking for recommendations for both road tires (driver type car) or ncrs show type tires.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Chris, I have BF Goodrich bias ply Gold Lines mounted on repro knock offs and it looks pretty sharp. I like the Goldlines as they were offered I believe only in 65/66? so it's a neat way to distinguish it's a 65 or 66.

The bias plys take some getting used to after radials but there ok. I drove a 67 bb with Michelin radial Red Lines and that thing drove like a new car. I've seen Coker brand Gold Line radials but don't know if they're a good performing tire or not.

Chris, I have 225 x 70 x 15 BFG's on a '67. I am looking for that same size in a red line, but have yet to find it. Be careful if you go above 205 x 75, or 225 x 70 as clearance with the front of the wheel well and the frame become an issue.

          Dave -

I believe you can get just about any size you need in redlines or goldlines from Diamondback Classics in Conway, SC. Their web site is at:

Chris, After spending much time investigating what size road tire to use I settled on 215-70 radials. They give a litte wider footprint and the OAD is similar to the original 775's. As far as bias type tires the only thing they're good for is to keep the car off the ground on the judging field. Check the Judging Manual for brands. Mark

Hey Chris, my '65 came with U.S. Royal Laredo's,I believe a 5/8" white stripe. I chose a Dunlop Axiom II 215 x 70 as the replacement, and am very satisfied with the results. No rubbing and a clean appearance.
