C2 Battery Access Panel Bolts w/C60 or 396

The '65 TIM&JG is pretty specific about bolt headmarks.

"... six recessed hex head bolts ... headmark of an anchor and two perpendicular lines"

The pic below shows the types I found on my late L78 (left), and on my early '65 C60 car (right). Notice the larger RH hook and the slight tilt of the anchor on the left.

Question is: what do the TIM&JG's of '64 '66 and '67 say about the headmarks at this location ? Have any '64 or early '65 C60 owners seen the small anchor bolt on the right ? I'm assuming that the anchor symbol is of a single supplier.

You're reading too much into a die inpression

Tilts and Large Hooks are aberrations or worn dies. Screw machines make many of the same part simultaneously. And screw machine manuacturers oftem have many machines making the same parts when OEM volumes are prodused. Three strikes is as you know not a variable factor, but rather an ID mark - but Tilts and Large Hooks are not.

      Wayne,

The bolts/screws on my '67 C60 are all like the left one in your photo only better preserved. They are the ones on the car when I bought it from the 3rd owner still with the original cad plating.

PS: The anchors are tilted & slightly off center on bolt heads I can see with only the hood raised.

        '67 JG sez "zinc-plated recessed-head hex bolts".

Sorry John ..... I should have said zincad. These ol' tired eyes can't tell the difference with a weak flashlight in a dark garage.

I suspect that what Mr Midkiff is trying to do (and correctly, in my opinion) to lead 1965 judges down the path of "Be careful with the absolutes." because they may jump up and bite.......

Re: C2 Battey Access Panel Bolt Plating

Kent - Being that zinc and cadmium are in the same chemical family on the Periodic Table, their appearance on plated surfaces look almost identical and rightly so. Even more confusing is the fact that the dictionary states that metallic cadmium resembles tin in appearance.

Bottomline is that your eyes are OK. It's just not readily apparent to tell by looking the differences between zinc, cadmium, and also tin plated surfaces.

This is a great hobby. It involves everything including chemistry, physics, metallurgy, all the important food groups and of course, politics!!!!!!!!!!

I would have to search for bolts with the anchor tilted to the right
