Is there any problem running a big block (air, C60) car with the 42 Amp alt. 1100696? All 68 cars with air called for the 110750 61 Amp alt. If its not rewound or rebuilt to 61 Amps will it hurt or just take the battery longer to charge? Thanks. Electricity is strange stuff to me.

Re: alternator size on 68 Big Block with air
Presuming your 42A alternator REALLY has 42A internal components, the worst case scenario is under maximum electrical load (e.g. headlight on with A/C or heater running), you'll show a discharge state on your ammeter because the alternator isn't properly sized to handle the peak electrical load of the car...- Top

Re: alternator size on 68 Big Block with air
Thanks Jack, I think I'll try and confirm the Alt actual output and go from there. I'll just upgrade it to the correct 62 AMP (110750) capicity if it needs it. Any hidden problems here, like battery capicity etc.?- Top

I don't think that battery capacity would be much of a factor here. Also, keep in mind that changing the output of these alternators is as simple as changing the stator. Of course, if you're not concerned about "numbers", you could just purchase a rebuilt alternator of higher capacity for less than the cost and trouble of replacing the stator in the one you have.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
