Hello from Berlin Germany
We have a problem with a 1965 Brake System. We like to replace all calibers and lines. Also we are goin to replace the Master Cylinder. The Car has power brakes and a proportioning valve thats mount on the Frame . I never saw this combination on a C2 before .What make the 65 Brake so spezial ?
The device that you have pictured is NOT part of the original braking system for ANY 1965 Corvette. The strange thing is that the lines all look very "factory". Nevertheless, device looks like the COMBINATION VALVE used for 1978-82 Corvettes and otherwise known as GM #1257208. It didn't even exist when 1965 Corvettes were originally built.
Someone must have retrofitted it to the car. I have no idea why. Do you have a picture of the master cylinder?
Would the TÜV not oblige you to return the car to 100% original configuration? I know the one on Alboinstraße in Tempelhof was very picky about such things.
This car has a converted brake system. It was likely either not an original power brake car or, at least, someone has changed the master cylinder to a 67+ style unit. The addition of the combination valve was likely done at the same time. I cannot imagine why the combination valve was added, though.
For one thing, the pressure differential sensing function of the valve is not being used (no wire connected to the switch on the valve).
The proportioning function of the valve (fixed rate, non-adjustable) is not necessary for a 1965 Corvette. So, I see no purpose for the valve, at all, in this system.
