Geoffrey, That's a really good mystery you solved. Horsepower ratings equals the 4-4. Some genius stayed up all night in 1962 to figure that one out. Hope everyone sees your post. MH did you see it? Thanks very much, John

License plate frame is different from those supplied with Corvettes.

That's what I was thinking. I think they included a thin, dual stripe whitewall and some had a self sealing feature.

Mike, I believe that the Royal Master of that era was a 1" or so white wall that was inserted in a protruded area on the sidewall. I remember buying a set of them for my '61 (in early '63). One weekend and all four were ready for the recap shop.

Well this is a good example of the Corvette "experts" trying to read something into a friggen date! IMHEO it is just that....... a date, nothing more, nothing less.
I worked next door to the Engineering Product Information Group who supplied the graphics and text for such in-house photo shoots and I don't ever recall any symbolism to these types of numbers except to signify the date of the shoot or the date of that faze of that engineering project completion. Most of these types of photo's were taken for inclusion into a internal publication that was called a Product Features Book. This publication was basically used for disseminating new product information within the corporation and never distributed outside GM.

Why would they use an pre-production prototype for a photoshoot in April '63 instead of a production example?

If the shoot was a year earlier, April 1962, I could understand, unless "four for '63" has some cryptic meaning.

It may be the angle or the lighting, but:

                  1. wipers look black
                  2. pass headlight bezel looks chrome, while driver bezel looks painted
                  3. Left and right bumpers don't match in position or thickness
                  4. Interior windshield trim looks chrome
                  5. Handgrip on dash looks much longer

Could that be a sketch NOT a photo?????

Ive seen sketches that are very hard to tell them, from photos. Phil 8063
