Re: What is point deduct C2 P.S. control valve?
The entire power steering system only carries eight points, so a new/replacement control valve couldn't cost you more than one originality point. Suggest you get a set of scoring sheets - you'll see the point allocations by line item and you can easily figure the deductions based on the scoring matrix.- Top

Re: What is point deduct C2 P.S. control valve?
Not only that, but I don't think the new ones differ at all from an original other than the fact that they all come with the 74-and-later gravel guard already installed, and they might come unpainted. Via a Google search I find some sold as bare steel, other new ones painted black.
So, I would suspect the deduction is minimal if you leave the guard on, none if you remove it and make sure it's painted correctly.

It's not a "gravel guard"; it's a hose guide. And, there were 2 different ones used for 1974+ period. Hardly anyone is aware of the latter point. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Addendum
Also, I should have mentioned, the current "reproduction" power steering control valves are, other than the hose guide, virtually identical to the originals in CONFIGURATION. However, original GM valves have GM casting numbers (e.g. "56" or "78" "prefix" Saginaw Division part numbers) on the cast iron components. The reproduction valves and many later GM SERVICE valves do not have the GM casting numbers on them. Some of the reproduction valves have "SSBC" cast on them (for Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation).
However, I doubt that any of these numbers are judged. So, it might be just an "academic" point. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe,
So noted. Someone (a rebuilder?) once told me it was a gravel guard, so the term stuck in my mind. It seems a somewhat logical name once you see it installed and on the car.

Oh, yes; it's a very logical to infer that function for the part. There was a time when I thought so, too. But, that's not what it is, after all. It's a hose guide. And, if one uses it the way it's designed to be used, one will see how useful it is in assuring the proper positioning of the extend and retract hoses which otherwise can be a bit problematic.
I think that about 99% of the people in the Corvette business and hobby think that it's a "gravel guard". We're now part of the 1% that "knows the truth".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
