I am looking for recommendations for someone who can rebuild my harmonic balancer for my 1961 230 hp car. The seal is dried out and the shaft has some creases worn into it. Thanks for any assistance. Jeff

Re: C1 Harmonic Balancer
Jeff,
I believe that Paragon provides a balancer rebuild service exactly as you seek. Check out page 16 of their 1953-1962 catalog at www.corvette-paragon.com. I've never used this service but they list just the parts at $43 and the labor at approximately $100. You can rebuild it yourself but you need a hydraulic press and it is tough to smash the rivets down to look like the original pattern.

Re: C1 Harmonic Balancer
Jeff,
One other point: The balancer is held on by an interference (friction) fit. Make sure you use the right tool to pull it off and be careful when reinstalling (use a block of wood when tapping it back on).
Depending on the removal and replacement history of the balancer, the fit can get sloppy. If when pulling it off you get any sense that it is not a good, snug fit on the crank snout, replace it. Don't take a chance reusing as it can become a flying grenade to the front of the engine compartment. The rebuild service can fit a thin sleeve over the balancer stub which will improve the oil sealing surface where a groove gets worn as you describe. But there is no economical way to reestablish the interference fit on the crank. Decent used ones can be found on ebay and swap meets for $50-$100.
Best wishes,

Re: C1 Harmonic Balancer
I remember seeing a company called "Damper Dudes" that both rebuilds and sells refurbished balancers. Try a Google search.- Top
