C2 carpet underlay advice

Need to replace my carpet on my 66 vert. Firstly, was there jute padding underneath from the factory, I cannot see it in my TIM judging guide.

I have a 427 and the floor gets real hot in the summer with undercar exhaust.

What product have those of you used to reduce heat, reg padding or foil heat barrier kits. Anyone tried the Dynamax heat barrier products.... Best advice appreciated.

I used this thin foil heat barrier along with my original pads when I redid the carpeting on my 67 S/B. Only about an 1/8" thick and doesn't effect the carpet fit. You can't really tell it is there, and I think it works to reflect the heat. Not sure what the brand name was.

I just did my 66 conv with a product from Thermotec. There was an article in Corvette Fever last year that sparked my interest. I did not want to use foil plus underlayment plus carpet so I skipped the underlayment and used a thermotec product that was aprox 3/8"thick. I figured this would not effect the carpet fit. They also make a product that is only 70 mil thick if you wanted to use the underlayment too. See www.thermotec.com. Too soon to tell how effective it is but should help here in Atlanta.

Advice: buy knee pads.

I help do this on a 73 with a 454 in it. The owner bought the 1/8" foil insulation (from Home Depot I think) and then cut it to place into position. Careful cutting and gluing, using 3M spray adhesive, resulted in an undetectable installation. The owner claims that this has reduced cockpit temperatures significantly. The other thing that he did was to put in a new tunnel insulation blanket.

I used a product called B-Queit..it is very inexpensive ..They are on the web..
