    Survivor car ?

    Hi again,

Here's a question regarding my 1964 documented 3 owner 78,000 mile car. It has only been repainted once and everything else about the car seems to be original. My question is would it hurt it's survivor value by pulling the engine out resealing everything, repaint, clean the engine compartment area and drop back in? The overall condition of the car is fantastic for it's age and a fresh cleanup sure would look nice. Any help here is appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Craig

Craig, if you plan on going for a BOWTIE award, you probably already lost the portion due to the exterior paint. The seals on the engine is usually regular maintenance. Painting the engine is probably another loss.

As far as a dollar value, probably a value loss to anal NCRS folks like me. But to a non-NCRS person, it probably adds to the eye-candy and the price goes up.

    just my 2 cents

      Craig,

That's how it starts....just going to clean the engine compartment. Then...while the engine is out, I might as well replace this, then that, etc., and pretty soon ther's no where to stop because after replacing one part, it makes the rest of the parts around it look like they need replacing. If your intention and enjoyment is keeping it original, leave it as is....my opinion, of course.

My '67 frame-off restoration started with just ...

...cleaning the engine compartment while the engine was removed.
