I have a 54 corvette that I removed a 350 turbo trans, adp plate, and flywheel from and installed a 57 powerglide and related parts from a 57 chevy Belair. My question is what is the best way to get to a six volt starter? Will a 54 Chevy starter work? I hope someday to get the correct trans in it but for now I'll slowly collect the right parts and put together a fun driver for a few years. Thanks for any help you can give. Rod T.

Re: 54 corvette starter questions
Be sure it has a 4 pole armature in lieu of the standard 2 pole 6 volt starter.

Re: 54 corvette starter questions
Roy, the 6 volt starter we removed must have had the drive changed because the gear is larger than the 12 volt starter that was on the 57 chevy. I need to keep the car 6 volts so I'll probably have to rework the old starter and starter drive to mesh with the 57 flywheel. Thanks, Rod T.- Top

Re: 54 corvette starter questions
Kent,
I would like to put the old 6 volt starter back into the powerglide but it has a larger gear than the 12 volt 57 starter. Maybe someone changed the starter drive on the 6 volt starter to work with the 350 turbo trans and flywheel. There are always issues it seems when trying to do something other than stock! Thanks for the reply. Rod T.- Top
