    Battery Access

Okay here goes for my first ever stupid question, to probably be followed by many more. I just returned to Vettes after selling my first one 28 years ago. Traded it in on a daughter. Great kid good trade. I just bought a 327/350 '65 Coupe with A/C and changed the battery in it yesterday. The PO had 3/8 bolts going through the fender to hold on the access door. If I purchase the proper hardware which I believe was riveted to the fender will they fit or am I going to have to fiberglass over his work to have something to rivet to. BYW I'm looking to do a concours car, I just like to put things right as I go along. Thanks

    Re: Battery Access

Joe - In general we all had to trade cars for kids, houses, wives, etc, and like the rest of us it took sometime, so we're glad you're back.

Anyway, the T- nuts attach to the fender skirt filler, i.e. access panel, and except fot the bottom 2 screws, the other bolts come from inside the engine compartment. So if the original holes are in the fender and haven't been seriously enlarged you should be OK because the bolts have an integral floating washer.

You'll find the general description of the Air Conditioner - Skirt Filler in the C60 section of the 1965 Corvette Assembly Instruction Manual.
