    Correct Thermostat Bolts for L78

    The long bolt is marked CP and the short bolt has only a P. Is this correct thermostst bolts for 65 396 car. Thanks

    It sounds like they're period-correct fastener headmarkings. If you were expecting the headmarkings of the 2 bolts to match, forget it. Bolts of different lengths usually did not have matching headmarkings except by "accident". Generally, different suppliers provided different length bolts at any given time.

      HI GREG,

      What colour are the bolts. Judging guide states black oxide. Is that correct?

        Not sure about Black They appear to more of a rust colour with a little silver paint

          Greg 16120 had a CP long bolt and the short one is very hard to read but appears to be JJ.. both look like they were cad plated . Bill

            The vast majority of bolts that were used as part of engine assemblies were black oxide or black phosphate-finished. This was especially true of bolts that were to be painted. In the case of the thermostat housing bolts, they were to be painted, either engine color or, in the case of aluminum manifolds, painted with aluminum paint with the thermostat housing.
