    1990 Corvette Coupe

    My recent purchase 1990 Corvette Coupe has 41xxx miles on it. Only will use for cruises and weekend fun. I took the car to a Chevy Dealer because the check guages light, seat belt light, low oil pressure light and air bag lights stayed on. Dealer said the DERM-air bag control module was bad, but GM has no replacement and that this was the only year for this type of sensor. Also said could not use one from another car since each one is programmed to a specific car. Does not know if air bag will work.
    Check guage light stays on because someone replaced oil pan with an aftermarket one that has no hole for the low oil pressure sensor. Dealer said that the seat belt light was also on this same circuit. Any help world be appreciated since I do want to keep the car as original as possible. Thanks Cliff.

      I don't know about the low oil pressure light issue, but I had a similiar problem with the air bag light on my 1990. The problem was corrosion on the connector under the dash on the passenger side. Once the corrosion was removed and reconnected the problem was resolved. I believe here is a proceedure to clear the codes for the air bag, but I don't recall what it was. I suggest you get a set of manuals for the car. They are usually available on e-bay.

      Regards,

      George

        Oil pan could of been replaced because someone stripped the threads in the pan for the drain plug. A used pan could be available from www.contempoarycorvettes.com.

          1) I don't know which module is the problem; there are two SIR-related modules for your application. The first is GM #10094618. This one is GM-discontinued but available in remanufactured form from Auto ECM's (www.autoecms.com). The other one, which I believe is within the steering wheel cavity is GM #10104008. I don't know where you'd find that one.

          2) 1990 Corvettes did not use an oil level sensor in the pan. So, not finding one is the condition that one should expect;

          3) I'll repeat advice I give often: if you're going to do any work, at all, on a Corvette, you MUST have the factory service manual. By "factory" I mean the manual prepared by GM and published by Helm, Inc.

            Oops

            Well this should again teach me to jump in where I know nothing. Cliff did say hole in the pan for low oil PRESSURE sensor. I read that too quickly without sufficient comprehension. Sorry -- I'll sit down and watch for a while

              Thanks George I just got the car and will be getting all the manuals for sure. Hopefully it is a corrosion issue. Thanks Cliff
