i have a 72 small block with a "Corvette Order Copy" that has Ident. No., Date Received, Exp.Date of Prod., etc.. Also has a hand written three digit number that matches the last digits of the VIN. ASSEMBLY DIVISION at the top of the page. What exactly is this? It does not appear to have any glue on it. It has a carbon paper back, but no page number I can detect. Jim

Re: Order Copy
The order copy is the same as the tank sticker. They were a multicopy, someone else will have to chime in as to how many, list of options for the assembly line to use. Occassionally you will find one under the dash, in the kick panel area, under the carpet of '67 up cars. Just further documentation for your car.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Order Copy
Jim:
I just had a call last night from a 68 Corvette owner who I believe was calling either from Australia...or of Austrilian decent. So this is fresh...
A Corvette Order Copy is an internal St Louis assembly plant document that was distributed back to both the corporate office and the dealer as feedback on those options ordered by the dealer and specified by zone. In 1973, it was replaced by a production manifest or build document.
IDENT is the IDENTification control number. Once the factory got the dealer order, it issued a unique IDENT number that was used internally to the factory. It will also appear on the window sticker so a complete set of production documents tell the complete story.
As Dickie point out, several copies were printed using carbon paper with the intent that a copy goes to each line such as body, trim, chassis, final trim, final assembly, etc. In later years, (73-82) we see a single digit code at the bottom of the page that indicate copy number running 1 through 7.
If you talk to those familiar with St Louis operations as well as having witnessed the process, paper was all over the place. So paper left behind in a vehicle was not intentional other than the tank sticker...just random left over production debris. You're fortunate to have discovered one such remnant.
The "Date Received - Exp Date of Prod" is the date the order is received at the plant while the later date is estimated (expected) date of production. The later date may well vary by a few days from the actual body build date on the trim tag which is a different story.
The scrawled three digits. Typically this a three digit code the "body shop job number" used to track body panels before assembly. At times, these three digits paralelled the last three digits of the VIN.
I'm sure others would appreciate if you scan and willing to post, the forum can point out other features that will help you understand your document. Hope this helps.Tom Russo

Re: Order Copy
Tom,
I think the hand written number on the Corvette Order Copy (Tank Sheet) is the Assembly Line Identification Number.....not a Body Line number.- Top

Re: Order Copy
I also have a 72 and I am trying to make sense of the order copy.
I have decoded everything that has an option # assigned. However, there are references to R. HUB, F. HUB, Front Spring and Rear Spring.
Can anyone shed some light on what this means, given the fact there is no option # to reference. Or, is this typical of all order copies.- Top
