Body numbe to build date ???

    Hi All,
I'm trying to figure out a numbers question. The Vette is a 1966 427/390, serial number 15,016. The body build date on the trim tag is F24 (which seems about right), but the body number is S2850. It seems to me that that the body number should be closer to 7,500 (given two plants ---AOS and St. Lewis--and assuming about equal production per plant).
    What am I missing here?
    Thanks,
    George

      Ah ha; of course!
With a nearly 2 to 1 Vert to Cp. ratio in '66, it seems that S2850 would be about right for this Cp.
      Thanks Wayne,
      G.

On second thought, shouldn't the number be closer

        to 3,500---4,000?

          George -

I have several '66 convertible tag images from G18 and G21, 4 weeks after yours, and they're S5313 and S5238.

            John,
Are you agreeing that the 2850 number is "low" for this trim tag/car?

George, yours is low if it is a convertible. If it is a coupe, you are right where you should be. I have one coupe on my list about 1000 ahead of you with F15 S2663.

The odd guy out is the convertible about 400 ahead of you with J17 A-7188. Doesn't seem quite kosher?

                Thanks all,

To get a little closer on the body build. A coupe built 327 cars, before 15,016 has F22 S2802 on it's trim tag, another coupe 58 cars after, has a body build date of F28 S2888, on it's trim tag. So, looks line your coupe with F24 S2850, fit's fine to me. Just for reference, a convt built 49 cars after 15,016, has F25 S4706 on it's trim tag. Hope this helps. Dave
