    Natural or unpainted?

I am restoring a 54. In the judging manual there are several spots where it says the finish has to be natural or unpainted, such as the door catches. What does this mean? Any metal that is not protected with something will rust with the humidity alone.

In this case it means NOT painted. They were zinc or cad plated to protect from rust.

Future corrosion on "natural" metal surfaces is exactly the problem with allowing those surfaces to remain natural for originality purposes.
