What might i need to consider beyond bead blasting and painting to restore a set of 1967 rally wheels?

Re: C2 rally wheel restoration
Richard. Be careful not to over clean them with the bead blaster. If you have original wheels, the remnants of the paint where it pooled after drying from the dipping process should still be visible. You might want to keep that original pooling build up as that is factory. After the wheels are good and clean, paint the wheels semi gloss black and then go with your argent silver. Make sure that you get some overspray through the slots from the front to the back so that you get some silver on the back of the wheel. If you use a rattle can argent silver paint, the surface can be a little rougher than original when dry. In that case, you may want to knock down the silver finish with a little xxxx steel wool to get a smoother finish.
Good luck.

One thing to consider...
before you start to 'pretty' them up is whether or not the wheels are round to start with! You'd be surprised how many used original wheels saw curb damage and are out of round...
A local shop that specializes in repairing or 'truing' wheels can mount them and verify concentricity before you start your re-finishing job. If a wheel is appreciably out of round, all the balancing weights in the world aren't going to make it run true on the road and you can expect vibration and uneven tire tread wear that'll permenantly take a 'set' on your tires.- Top
