    73 Master Cylinder Power Brakes

Trying to figure out if my master cylinder is original or has the correct dates or casting number. It is stamped with 29969; what appears to be a a seperate letter and 2. Can someone tell me if this is the correct number for this master cylinder on a 73 with power brakes. I need to figure out if I should get this M/C rebuilt or search for one with the correct casting number. If rebuilt, do I get it resleeved and what color should it be painted on a 73. Thanks for your help with this. Joe 46306

From what you've described, I would say that it's an aftermarket, replacement master cylinder. If it prominently says "Made in USA", it's definitely aftermarket. The original master cylinder for your car should carry casting #5460346. If I recall correctly, 1973 models still used masters with bleeder valves. I think that this changed in either late 1973 or 1974.

Thanks Joe for confirming it's aftermarket for me. I really appreciate it. Ideas on where to go to find the correct part? Thanks again - Joe 46306

Excellent reproductions of the original master cylinders are now available from an outfit called Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes www.cssbinc.com Other Corvette parts vendors may have these by now, too. I don't know, for sure.
