Received my 65 Holley 2818 carburetor from a reputable rebuilder mentioned on this and other corvette sites. The rear bowl, driver side, where the tube ties the front and rear bowls together, that little round pocket is filled with a White epoxylike material. It sticksa out. Judges would cream me on this. I assume it leaked there, but why white? I have not called them yet. I hate to return this and wait for it's return. May have to. Anyone else experience this with carburetor restorers? Thanks DG

Re: Rebuilt Holley carburetor issue.
I recently asked the same question, likely with regard to the same company. Apparently they use either white or gray epoxy. I think it's under the "cheap insurance" principle. I was thinking of smoothing it out and painting it back so it wouldn't show.
Let us know if you find out more.

FYI
I just did a Google on "clear epoxy" and there are many suppliers, and several are fuel resistant. It makes you wonder why the rebuilder doesn't use one of those. One or two are even amber - wouldn't that color match quite well?

Re: FYI
I tried a product called Rub and Buff at a hobby store. It works great to simulate a zinc coating for bolts and nuts in the silver leaf version. So I bought the antique gold. Scuffed up the epoxy and applied. Well, it helped to cover the white. This carb looks like new, except for the now colored white spot. Also, fuel will probably remove this pigment in time. DG- Top

Found a picture of a 2818 on my carb rebuilde
http://www.customrebuiltcarbs.com/gallery2.php3 I found a picture of another Holley 2818 they restored on their webpage. It's the 4th picture down on the left. Page 2. Notice the white round spot on the rear bowl where the tube ties the front and rear bowls together. What do you think? Thanks DG- Top

Re: Found a picture of a 2818 on my carb rebuilde
I knew which rebuilder you were talking about. I'm not sure why they don't just put new ones in. Maybe they do, but it's still "cheap insurance" to add the epoxy. It's not attractive.
See the one on the front of the Q-jet below. I think it's just as ugly if not more so.
If I send them mine I'm going to ask for no epoxy on the front, and take my chances.

Re: Found a picture of a 2818 on my carb rebuilde
I had my old 67 Holley done years ago by Kuntz. Kuntz used a clear epoxy. After the warranty was over the Kuntz carb began to leak. I emailed the rebuilder with a polite question about why white epoxy. The rest of the carburetor is excellent. Holley's are pigs for leaking as we all know. Maybe this white product is the best they have found to cure the problem. I want to say this is not in any way a rap against my current carb. rebuilder. The carb looks excellent. If it runs as good as it looks I will be more than pleased. I too would send them another carb.. Thanks DG- Top
