    restoration rivets

During my restoration I have noted several items that are rivetrd together and will need new rivets to reassemble as the factory did. My '57 has the front wheel hubs riveted to the brake drums but I have not seen those rivets available anywhere. The hood latches are also riveted and would need to have the rivets removed to get the spring out before replating. I have seen a "pin and clip" kit for these but no rivets. Has anyone had any sucess with locating a good supplier for these items?

If you can't find them through Corvette suppliers, try using "Google" to find "rivet". This would be one of the first places to pop up:

      Dave,
Thanks, this looks very promising. I did some rivet related searches but I must have missed this one.

        Don,

Assuming the rivets used on your rotors are the same as mid-years...Long Island Corvette has them. They are identical to the originals. You'll need someone with a hydraulic press set up to install them properly.

          Thanks,
Do you know if a 20 ton press is sufficient?

            Don,

The shop that does it in my area has a special shaped tool they use on the press that squashes it to look like the factory installation. If you happen to be in S. California I'll give you his #.

Sorry Rob, I'm in western Maryland. If I can get the rivets I can get them riveted. Thanks for the lead.

                Don,

You'll be much happier with the results if you have them installed with a press as opposed to actually trying to rivet them on. I've seen them both ways.
