    Differential Cross-member bushing

I have about 500 miles on my 63SWC after a body off restoration. I am checking the brakes and noticed a space between the male and female mounting bushings. I did replace these bushings during the restoration and torqued them to specifications. Could some one please provide a picture of this area of an original cross member mount?

    Thanks for any help!

I assume that you're talking about the differential front mount "snubber" bushing. The attached photo is of a 1969, but it's virtually identical to the 1963 with respect to the pictured section.

I don't understand how you can "notice a space between the male and female mounting bushings". The interface area between the bushings is pretty well concealed as mounted in the car.

          Ray,

If you used the repro sombrero bushings, I've heard that their fit is a little tighter than the originals causing a small gap at the joint. This may settle with time. Also, you should put some lubricant between the bushing and the crossmember male fit prior to reassembly.

PS - new clutch kit that I installed in my 66 works very well. Thanks for your tranny tips.

If you're talking about the gap between the upside-down "brim" of the sombrero bracket with the top of the bushing, that's how it's supposed to be. It should never have changed after you torqued down the bolts and drove the car. In other words, when you torqued down the bolts there should have been about a 1/2" space there, after you drive the car for 500 miles there should be about a 1/2" space there and after you drive the car for 100,000 more miles there should still be a 1/2" space there.
