I searched the archives regarding the firewall and engine compartment wire clips. I have a May 67 AO Smith roadster. Do I understand that the clips do not have a plastic coating and that they were installed before blackout?

Re: C2 wire clips
Randy,
The ones that hold the hood release cable and wiring against the firewall are plain metal. The two attached to the inside lip of the top surround (one each side), just forward of the female hood catches are metal. I believe the one that holds the speedometer cable is coated, as are the ones up front that hold the wiring going to the headlights.- Top

Re: C2 wire clips
Hi Rob:
Just thought I'd describe what's on my car and ask for comments from others on the board. On my 67 AO Smith A/C car, there are two clips on the firewall that hold the harness. These are independent of the three clips that hold the hood release cross cable.
On the driver's side, there is a clip over the master cylinder (clip "A" in the attached photo), and this clip appears to be bare metal. On the passenger side there is another clip above the female hood latch, and this clip has a rubber coating. I find it odd that one clip is coated and the other isn't.
Incidentally, I posted the attached photo several months ago because the judges at the Boston Regional told me my harness should not be in clip "A." They thought the hood release cable should be in clip "A," despite the fact that this would make 4 clips on the cable (JM says 3) and the fact that clip "A" is clearly a different, larger clip than the three that hold the cable.
I got a few responses to my posting from others who thought the configuration on my car was correct, but overall, only a few people commented.

Re: C2 wire clips
Joe,
If you look at the AIM UPC 11-13 B5 you'll see the hood cable clips. There are 3 equal distance from the center. They are mounted on the vertical firewall.
They are part #3706345.
On UPC 12 A8 you'll see the wiring clips. They are item numbers 3788712 & a special #3901634. Look for all the locations of #22. There appears to be only 1 #25.
Per the AIM the clips for the hood cable are different than the wiring clips.
The speedo cable clip UPC M20 A4 also shows clips #3788712.
Compare all of the above for coatings etc.
All riveted clips were in place before blackout.
My opinion......- Top

Re: C2 wire clips
Joe
On my '66 St. Louis body the A and B clips are plain metal and both hold the hood release cable and the wiring. It looks like it makes sense to me. Maybe exactly what went where depended on the worker that installed these items that day.- Top

Re: C2 wire clips
Hello;
Looked at NOV & May St. Louis bodies.
Both have a stud(rivet) without a clip above the Master Cylinder.
Can only see them with a mirror.
Neither has ever had a clip or been mushroomed.
The hood release cable is secured in the three clips mentioned in the AIM.
The wiring is secured to the hood release cable with the slide through plastic cable ties.
Hope that helps. Just my experience.

Re: C2 wire clips
Hi Steve:
You are right that the AIM provides some useful info. I think that most people agree that the two clips on the sides of the hood surround are bare metal. Since the clip over my master cylinder is the same part number as those in the AIM, I suppose it is okay for it to be bare metal as well.
The clip over by the passenger side hood latch is a unique part number, so it is quite possible that it was indeed rubber coated.
So, regarding my question about whether the harness should be in clip "A" in my photo, what is your opinion? I think the harness belongs there, as shown in the AIM.- Top

Re: C2 wire clips
I looked at the clips today and offer the following information:
If the clip is fastened by a rivet, it has no metal coating, the end opposite the mounting hole is rounded. If the clip is fastened by a screw or stud it is rubber coated. The ends of these are flat with just the corners radiused. I removed the rubber coating from one of these and found black paint underneath so these might be painted also.
The metal clips with the rubber coating are used for the speedometer cable and the wiring harness clip fastened to the bottom of the heater box. All of the rest are bare on my 67. Now all I need is someplace to purchase a correct rubber coated clip.
Thank you,
Randy- Top

Re: C2 wire clips
Hi Ray:
This is interesting. There may be a difference between AO Smith and St. Louis bodies. I have seen another St Louis body with no clip over the master cylnder.
Do the cars you are looking at also have no harness clip over by the passenger side hood latch? The AIM shows harness clips in both locations, and my AO Smith car has clips in both locations.- Top
