The picture John Hinckley posted on 5 FEB is not how your carb is configured with the fast idle, only thing I see missing on John's photo is the linkage rod going to the thermostatic spring mounted on the manifold.

johns picture is exactly as my set up is. what i cannot see is what is behind the choke ro mount. the cam just swings in place and has nothing to bring it up to engage the choke set up. i suspect it is installed wrong or a spring is missing, bill

there is a round projection on the back side of the cam that pushes up on the choke arm mechanism to close the choke. if this projection is installed above the choke arm mechanism it will not close the choke plate

          Bill,

When the rod that connects the choke blade to the lever pulls the lever up on a cold start the lever should be taking the fast idle cam with it.

            Bill,

With the choke not engaged, the cam will loosely swing up and down. It only engages by a lever next to it which holds one end of the rod which goes to the choke plate in the carb. Closing the choke plate will pull the lever up, which pulls the cam up. You don't need the the spring or lower rod attached to verify this operation.

sorry i got that backasswards the choke

mechanism pushes up on the fast idle cam not the way i posted.you will not have fast idle if the projection on the plastic cam is not in the correct location above the mechanism. i should not depend on my memeory.

                Re: broken post on cam

found the stub that engages the choke rod lever broken off. will repair tomm by drilling out and glueing in a 3/4 in rivet body. once again you guys come through, thanks, bill
