This is the 50th anniversary of the T-10 4 spd

If you have any photo's, promo's, stories, literature or anything related to the original T-10 4 spd..e-mail them to me and I will include them in a special 50th anniversary display that is being put together.

No item or detail is too small...or too big.

Trivia question: Does anyone know where the original Borg Warner T-10's were manufactured?

Yes, that's correct. I was once told by a good friend of mine that was born and grew up in Muncie that the Borg Warner plant where the original T-10s were manufactured was sold to GM and became the factory where The GM Muncie transmissions were manufactured. I believe that T-10 manufacturing was then moved to another Borg Warner plant in Muncie.

Borg Warner just sent me the original blueprints of the 1st T-10. The shipping label was from Muncie!

            Happy Easter!

Mike..not really sure..but I think they adapted a 3 spd truck transmission..adding the third linkage to the tail shaft.

              Is that close?

I believe that the plant where the T-10 was transferred after the sale of the original plant to GM still operates in Muncie and that's probably where the material you got came from. That plant has produced many B-W products, including the T-56 6 speed used in early C5 Corvettes. Of course, the T-56 transmission line was sold to Tremec in about 1997 and transferred to Mexico. The plant remained open, though, producing other B-W gear products. Primarily, I think that these are components for 4WD trucks.

The T-10 tooling and manufacturing rights were sold to Doug Nash Engineering in the early 80's. After the collapse of the Doug Nash Company, the tooling and manufacturing rights were picked up by Regal-Beloit Corporation's Richmond Gear. They still manufacture the much-improved version to this day.

T-85 three speed Borg Warner became the T-10 four speed. FoMoCo used it in the mid '50's.

the t-85 was the basis for the t-10. the t-85 was available as a 3 spped and a 3 speed with overdrive and could be ordered in early 50's Linclons and mercurys. after my olds powered 49 chevy went thru a couple of 37 LaSalle trannys, i switched to the t-85 as their gears were almost as beefy as the old LaSalle and their synchros were far superior to the LaSalle top shifter. mike
