    side exhaust

How much damage is sustained when installing factory side exhaust on a '67 small block that wasn't born with the side exhaust option, and is the procedure reversible to preserve top flight status at future meets?

    Re: side exhaust

The sections you cut out of the lower fender panels behind the front wheel openings will have to be re-installed - 'glass and paint work to return to the original configuration.

The previous post assumes you've just bent the rocker molding support brackets back out of the way, not cut them off.

        P.S.

Rather than deleting your previous post and leaving all our responses "hanging in cyberspace" you could have easily just asked this same question within that thread. There's no law against it.

          Plus...

you have to either fill the original exhaust outlet holes in your rear valence panel or purchase/primier/paint a replacement for side exhaust AND you're in for side exhaust vs. standard car rocker panels.

I won't call it a 'monumental' job, but it's not going to be cheap when you consider the cost of the side exhaust system + body modifications + additional parts & the body/paint work...

one thing i have never seen posted about side exhaust is the smell of exhaust you wear. especially when started in the garage. worse on a convertable. i know as i speak as i now at this moment reak.(hey it rhymes!) i was just working on the last details on my car and realized that if the exhaust exited out the rear you would incure a lot less smell, call it the snowmobile syndrome if you will. do you guys ever notice the smell? or do your spouses complain about it? bill

You're right, Bill; side exhausts stink a lot worse when you start the can indoors. My garage is attached to the house, and the 'aroma effect' is instantaneous all over the house. I have two other cars parked in the same garage, and there's no similar odor.

                          Re:or sound!

been there-- done that - deduction for side pipes on car that did not come with them is quite a lot.

deduction for incorrect exhaust system ,. deduction for incorrect rocker panels. deduction for --- ETC eTC

It appears to me that this and the battery deduction is blown way out of proportion and the penalty is both considerable and unresonable.

deductions go on and on/ --Net result is that instead of trying to get a top flight of 94 out of 100 , you are trying to get a top flight of 94 out of about 96 or 97. This is quite difficult to do but not impossible.

The stand we have come up with is that it is acceptable for us to achieve a second flight only and keep the side pipes because they are so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No going back. Car looks better with them and probably has a better resale value.

                          My current opinion that's all
