    C2 Shifter T set screw?

    Hello Experienced Ones;
    Is there a standard on when the set screw was used on the Reverse lockout T handle?
    Thanks for this and other help.

    The set screw was used on first design '64 shifters in conjunction with 3863366 cable/pin assy. At least by April, '68, a reverse release rod assy, 3889461, was released as a replacement for the cable/pin assy on '64-'66 shifters.

    With release of the new rod, the set screw was discarded and the cable hole in the "T" handle was drilled to a larger diameter to accomadate the larger size of the rod. With deletion of the set screw, it became necessary to crimp the cable above the "T" handle to provide pin retention in the absence of the set screw.

    I can't give you the production changeover date.

    There were two other obvious changes in '64. First design shift knobs had plastic threads, second design, brass threaded insert. The first design shift handle was threaded all the way to the top. The second design lever was of smaller diameter and unthreaded at the top 3/16" of the handle.

      Re: C2 Shifter T set screw?

      Hello Mike McKown;
      Thank you for the great answer.
      Would you say generally '64-'66 had a set screw or until April '68.
      I worked on these Corvettes as a Chevrolet (we were mechanics) technician '63-'79.
      I'm sure my memory is fussy after 40 years(hard to say), but I don't remember anything but set screw technology in the sixties.
      Working on 2 '67s and not sure what is correct.
      Thank you again, Ray

        Ray:

        The second design rod was released for '64-'67 models. Either the rod or cable would be correct but I have no way of knowing what was factory original in 1967. I have parts history books but that would get rather tedious to go through them at this point. Maybe one of the guys that have computer access to the GM parts system or your Chevrolet dealer can help you track down when the second design part was released.
