could someone explain dating on power brake master cylinders? This is for a '72 small block, master #346.

    jim----

The date will be found on the machined surface surrounding the forward brake line fitting. It will be very small and lightly stamped. The first digit will be the last digit of the YEAR (e.g. "9"= 1969). The next three digits represent the julian date (e.g. "032" = February 1).

In addition to the date Joe explained for model year 1972 there is SOMETIMES the two letter broadcast code stamped before or after the date. Just off the top of my head, I believe one of the codes are MK for power brake units and HC or ZC for unassisted master cylinders.
