While stripping the underside of a 64 hood we noticed a part number. It appears raised and looks like it was in the mold. The number is # 18051.Is this an indication of an original or reproduction hood? Thanks Don # 31753

Re: 64 Hood Number
The number is located on the passenger side of the hood on the latch striker end. With the hood open, if you measure 4 1/2" from the top, and 9" from the side, the number appears in the flat part of the hood below the reinforcement strip. It was under several layers of paint. Thanks for your help.Don NCRS # 31753.- Top

Re: 64 Hood Number
Don,
Just out of curiosity, I looked at my '66 small block hood and found the number "18051" stamped in the same place as yours. It always amazes me to find a new number on the car. But I would have thought my number would be different from yours since the hood design of the '65-'66 is different than the '64. The assembly manual for my car calls for a 3874544 part number. This is interesting.

Re: 64 Hood Number
Don,
I got to thinking that you can't "stamp" fiberglass too well, so I took a closer look at my hood. Although it appears to be stamped, mine is actually raised slightly. I'm wondering if this is the number on the form used to make the hood. If so, we either both have the original hoods, or its a coincidence that we both have aftermarket hoods from the same manufacturer.

Re: 64 Hood Number
Mark, I just happen to have an original 66 hood hanging on the wall of my garage and guess what? The same number is on this hood. This may be one way to tell if a hood is original or not.I believe this is a GM hood mold number.Even when the year style of hood changed the mold number stayed the same.I wonder if someone with a 63,65,or 67 hood could confirm this on these hoods? Thats my guess until one of the experts lets us know different. Thanks for you help. Don # 31753- Top

Re: 64 Hood Number
Sorry Don, no number on my 65 hood. I believe the 65 was a one year only hood...Bob
