    C3 gas tank replacement

I plan on replacing my leaking original gas tank this weekend with one from Quanta. I plan on replacing the sending unit also. Do I need to use the special wrench for the sending unit lock ring or can I get by with some other means of installation?

Any other tips for tank removal/installation?

All of the rubber hoses will get replaced also.......

    Thanks,
    Tom

Tom I did this job in november a fun job but remove all gas.!!!Replace all hoses there are 2 different sizes and can be bought at the auto parts store and are not very long.As for the locking ring up side down on a table and slowly tap ring with screw driver each tab=not hard .Time =fun with your car.No hidden gremlems. Maybe 2 small screws by raido antenna, top drivers side.Rember to look /Rember /Replace/Reassemble.Denny

I have used a punch with no problem on the lock ring. Get all the gas you can out of the tank and change the sending unit after the tank is removed.

          Denny,

I hope to get to this over the weekend. If I uncover any markings, I'll be sure to photograph them and pass them along.

The tank was out many years ago (in the eighties) by the previous owner who tried (unsuccessfully) to fix the leak. He told me that the tank sticker was ruined from the leaking fuel and there was no saving it.

          Thanks everbody for the tips!

          Tom

            Hi Tom,

The bayonette ring that holds the sending unit in place can be spun out by either a punch, chisel or even a heavy screw driver being placed against the tangs and struck with a small peen hammer. I prefere a brass punch (no sparkes)

Gasoline vapors next to naptha and laquer thinners is extremely volatile so be careful and wash the tank out first.
