    Console vent allen screw size

I am in the process of removing my interior (1969 non-A/C coupe) so I can replace the carpet and change out the heater core while I'm at it. Does anyone know what size Allen wrench is used to remove the vent knobs on the console?
Is this the same allen wrench needed to tighten the wiper over ride knob?

Someone over on the Corvette Forum said the wrench size is 1/16th but, it seemed too big for my reproduction override switch knob. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank,

    Dave

    Dave----

The allen wrench size for the ORIGINAL "sphere-shaped" knobs on the vent control levers used for most 1969's is, indeed, 1/16". No doubt about that, at all. However, as I emphasized, this is for the ORIGINAL knobs. I don't know if reproductions or later GM SERVICE knobs use the same size allen screws. It's possible that reproduction use a METRIC size. So, you might want to try metric. Also, early 1969 used the 1968-style knobs which were "triangular log" style. I believe that they also used 1/16" allen screws, too, but I'm not 100% sure of that fact.

One thing to note: the ORIGINAL sphere-shaped knobs used for 1969 had a smooth finish and NOT a textured finish. Later, the knobs went to a "textured" finish and these became SERVICE for earlier, including 1969.

Just did a check of my early "triangular log" style vent knobs and yes, as Joe states, they are 1/16" allen screws.

Thanks guys, my car has the smooth, round knobs for the vents so I will go with the 1/16 allen wrench. No for the reproduction override knob, I may have to check out some metric sizes.

With the correct size allen wrench if someone over tightened that set screw and striped the threads I have found them not to back out sometimes. This has happened to me more than once and it is hard to tell if you have the correct size allen or the set screw is turning but not comming out. I have also drilled out the hole and tapped them to use a larger set screw after I pulled them off with force if the knob still looked nice.
