Bill, A friend just gave me these numbers. He's going tomorrow to look the car over. I'll try and get the casting # from him. I was looking at the codes in the NCRS spec guide and I can't find anything. Thanks for fast reply.>George

According to the "1953-1967 Corvette Buyer's Guide", all of the 1956 Motors were 265's. The engine numbers ended in FK, GV,FG,GR AND GU. The G* blocks were 3 speeds, and the F* were Powerglides. The block that you have is probably a passenger car block.

                    Robert-----

The "F" suffix code was also used for some 1957 283 cid engines in passenger cars and light trucks, too. The thing I don't understand is why there appears to be a VIN derivative on the pad. I didn't think that any Chevrolet cars had the VIN derivative stamping as early as 1957.

                      Very likely it will be "3720991" if it's a 1956 265 and "3731548" if it's a 1957 283.

                        Don't think it's a VIN derivative, Joe...

                        From the '56-57 JG:

"1956 engines were serial numbered in sequence starting with 0001001...."

Early Flint 56 265 for pass car with 2 bbl powerglide. Curious as to cast date.
