    C2 - New Tire Suggestions

    Hello,

While I know that the subject of replacement tires for mid-years has probably been discussed to death, can someone please confirm for me the best choice and size to put on my '63.
Yes, I have searched the archives (and have a huge headache to prove it) and I have also read Duke's 2 part article from the spring/summer '03 Restorer.

The tires on my car now are Pirelli's that date back to about 1978, or so I was told. I do not want to go the Pirelli route (P4000) because of the hit I took with them the last 2 times the car was judged. I also prefer to stick with an original part supplier.

Anyone know if the Goodyear Regatta 2 is a good choice?
    Should I be using P205-70R-15 or P215?

    Thanks for all help!!
    Syd

Syd, I've had Goodyear Regatta on my 63 for about five years, they driver very nice. They are P205/75R15.

    Don't know about judging.

Syd I have put a lot of miles on the Goodyear Regatta tires I have on another Chev. Car really rides smooth and tires are quiet at 70-75 mph on the interstate.

        Thanks guys!

        Sounds good.
Harry, I'll follow your lead and go with the 205-75R-15.

The Pirelli tires that have been on my '63 for the last 25+ years actually still look good. There is still tons of tread and you have to inspect them closely to see fine cracks in the whitewall, however, I no longer feel comfortable flying up the highway.

        Looking forward to new rubber!

Recently I found out about a V-rated 215/70R-15 DOT legal road racing tire.

With a little judicious tuning of the OE base suspension including a set of Spax or QA-1 adjustable shocks, it should give C2s 1 g cornering and braking performance, but I'm keeping it a secret!

Let's hope that he is not buying them all up and storing them in his collection ala Joe Lucia style

Syd, whichever tire you select, if you are getting 5, ensure one fits in your tire tub.
