    Update on high oil pressure

A month or so ago I posted a question re high oil pressure after changing to straight 40 weight oil. My '64 has a 80 lb maximum pressure gauge and the car had been running around 60 psi before the change. After the change to 40 wt it stayed buried at 80 nearly all the time. Just put in some Castrol GT 10W-30 and am now running at 40-50 most of the time. There were some debates as to whether the higher pressure was good or bad but I prefer to see the needle running closer to the middle of the gauge rather than the high side. For what its worth... Sounds like you got a well built and relatively new engine with bearing tolerances on the tight side.

Well I hope it's well built. It's the original engine with 43K miles and its never been opened up. It runs like a scalded dog so I feel lucky to have found a car that seems to have been well taken care of. It'll be at Mars this weekend.
