1954 bricked up in a building....

Cleaning out the papers in my car files today, I came across this old article from the Lowell Sun(Massachusetts)1986 or 87. Does anyone know if it's still down here in Florida, or the history of the story. I heard back then that the owner was disgruntled with service and didn't want to make the payments, so he stashed it away to avoid repossesion. Don't know if it's true. Alledgedly the owner died and no one knew about the car. Check out the story.

Pro-Team bought it from the daughter of the owner several years back. Maybe they would tell you where it went.

Rich, I wrote the girl a letter asking if I could inspect the car and take notes without, basically, touching it since it was fairly close to home. Never received a response. I was in the process of restoring my first Corvette, 1954 sn E54S1001362, at the time and could have used the research. Last I heard, it went to a shop for restoration. Never heard that Pro Team bought it.

I thought Pro Team bought it and was displayed at a regional.

That's my hometown paper and it should be called the Lowell Scum. Won't even buy it to catch the drippings from my steering box.

It was in Bloomington Golds Special Collection. I think when the show was in Springfeld. Proteam owned it at that time. I remember the paint had bubbles all over it. I probably have some photos of it somewhere. A real time capsule. DG

Dick, Please post the pictures if you can. I'd love to see them. The story about why he hid the car is still a mystery. The explanation in my first post was, I think, an article I read in a magazine or on the news at the time. I'd be interested knowing if it's true.

When I seen it their was a big build up about the car. It was white but the paint looked real dark as I recall and the conditon of everything was less than I expected.

Picture this! A classic 1954 Corvette spent 27 years sealed in its tomb of bricks and mortar within a grocery store, where Millionaire Richard Sampson owned the store and the Corvette. ProTeam has the story of the Corvette sale of the century!

When I was in high school, a local dentist in Neenah Wis, knocked out a wall and moved his 1953 corvette into the house. He felt this was the only way he could keep his car away from his children. It might still be in the house?

The car was at the special collection in Springfield and the lady was there with Pro Team that had sold him the car. She told me that he had bought the car way under the money, and seem a lttle perturbed now about the deal. I guess she was a guest of Pro Team. She sold it because she needed the money. I beleive Tom West a good friend of mine that works for Terry, told me the car went to Texas to a museum. The car did not run and smelled terrible on the inside. From what I understand the person that bought it from Tx. was going to leave it the way he got it. john

I just saw that someone wants me to try and find those pix. I will try. We have moved to 2 houses since then. I am literally getting ready to fly to Las Vegas for the regional. When I get back I will look for pix. DG
